Default Costs in Myanmar

Hi

I am travelling with my partner in January and I was wondering how much
should I budget per day. Considering, when I went through Viet Nam a few
years ago, I was averaging about $15 pdpp. Should I be looking at a similar
amount or more. I am flying between Yangon and Mandaly so I am not including
this in the budget.

Also, are hotels and internal bus travel comparable in prices to Laos and
what are the costs to Bagan per day at present

Thanks

David

David

Keep in mind that there are some very particular "costs" in Myanmar:

1. Donations
You want to go to Bagan. isn't it ?
Lots of temples and pagodas.
In almost every temple there is a donation box.
Of course there is no obligation, but...

2. Toll roads and unexpected road blocks
Not allways cleary whether you have to pay and how much,
even not for experienced travelers or official guides.

3. Public collections (fund raising) and
Mendicant processions.
Of course there is no obligation, but...

4. Tip
Airport-employees, drivers, guides, porters, personal assistants, advisors,
bell-boys,
they all expect some kind of tip / gratuity
Of course there is no obligation, but...

4. Poor people:
Glaring / flagrant injustice or poverty
Of course there is no obligation, but...

But you will save a lot on communication costs...
...because there simply isn't mobile phone or e-mail
(except for Yangon and Mandalay, there are some internet-cafe's)

We didn't meet any beggars in Myanmar last December. Not saying that
there are none, just that we didn't see any. It may be a poor country
but you are not confronted with poverty on the streets. Possibly most
people have enough to live.
