Default Tarutao recommendations for December?

Need to take my boss on his first Thailand trip in the peak peak peak
tourist season Dec 18-Jan 2nd. He says he wants to get away from
people. I say "good luck on those dates". I was thinking of Ko Tarutao
or Ko Lipe maybe? I've never been. I'm sure there will be plenty
people that time of year, but should be a bit less crowded than
average.

Is Ko Lipe over the top? I suppose it would be the one Island to find
things like A/C and swimming pools, which would be nice but not
mandatory. We may end up opting for a bungalow w/fan in order to get
away a bit more.

I can also try contacting the national parks office and see what info
they have.

Lipe is pretty quiet. No swimming pools or anything. In fact, the
islanders still struggle to survive there out of the tourist season and
starvation is not unknown in the winter storms when the fishing boats
can't go out - no resident doctor or anything like that and visitors
with medical qualifications are asked to register their whereabouts.
There is internet and telephone contact though for a few hours a week.

Turatao used to be a penal colony. My cruising guide shows a couple of
settlements but doesn't mention resorts.

Try www.andaman-island-hopping.com.

Whoops! I don't know why I said 'winter' storms. I meant the SW
Monsoon, which is, of course, May to September.

Hi Tim,

Koh Tarutao is much less crowded than the tiny island of Lipe (4 sqm
kilomtres), that is populated by some 4-500 Chao Narm/Chao Ley/Sea Gypsies.
Add to that various bungalow operations and I seriously doubt that your boss
will find that he has gotten away from people.
At the time I was in Koh Lipe there were no AC nor swimming pools in fact it
was all rather primitive, but nice enough IMO.
The large island of Koh Tarutao is only populated by park rangers and the
only place to stay as of 1998 was at the park head quarter in the NW region
of the island.
If you head south on Koh Tarutao you will find that the beaches are
absolutely deserted.

Cheers
