Can anyone suggest a reasonably priced hotel area near NYC? I need to
book a hotel the night before we leave on the Norwegian Dawn in NYC
but don't want to pay the exorbitant Manhattan prices..

I was thinking of something like White Plains/Tarrytown, NY???

thanks!

Your going to pay just about the same price in Westchester as NYC.
I've gotten rooms at the NY Hilton (Executive Level) for $135 a night.
You didn't mention how you going to the ship (driving, flying, train?).
Just start calling the name chain hotels and getting rates. I've done
better (rates) calling the 800 numbers than I could do at Hotels.com.
If you want to stay in Westchester stay closer to the city like
Yonkers...its still Westchester but closer to the piers.

White Plains is quite a distance from nyc.
NJ is closest to the port.

We'll be parking at the pier for 2 weeks so I don't want to pay for
parking at the hotel I'll be staying at..what is the district directly
across the river in New Jersey..is it possible to park there more
reasonably and then take the ferry over? thanks again!

That's MUCH too far away. How about right across the Hudson River, in
New Jersey? There's several nice hotels on the Jersey side, right
across from where the ship docks. Depending on how many pieces of
luggage you have, you can take the ferry across the day you embark.

If you're interested, let me know, and I'll get more specific for you.
Right now, I'm hittin' the hay.

That's why I was looking at Westchester, Yonkers area..from the maps I
see it looks like the 9A heads right into the highway along the
pier...it looked like the easiest access to NYC but what do I know.
I'll be driving in on highway 87 from Albany.

White Plains/Yonkers is less than/about a half hour from the pier. traffic can
be bad from jersey. Taking the Saw Mill Pkway leads directly into the Henry
Hudson. Also check Elmsford.close by to WP and yonkers. I would avoid Yonkers
....relatively high crime rate

No, go for NJ. Sue and I have stayed at both the Embassy Suites and the
Hampton Inn in Secaucus, near the Meadowlands Convention Center.
Driving time into Manhattan (fairly close to the NYPST) is less than 30
minutes.

Andrew, last August we stayed at the Holiday Inn SoHo. It is very convenient
to Chinatown, Little Italy, So Ho, Tribeca and Greenwich Village. It is not
very far from the pier either. It is walking distance to all these places
and a very interesting place to stay. Click on the above and I believe you
can make reservations for it with Hotel.com or if you wish, call their 800
number and compare the prices before you book.. I believe Hotel.com rate is
149.95 right now for Jan.24th, one night. I did not know which night you
needed. It may be more or less depending on the date you need . But
everything is very convenient and they have a nice restaurant on the
premises. We had breakfast there several times during our 4 day stay.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Jean! That does look like a great place to stay..My concern is
parking and considering that we'll be arriving with 2 young children
7PM the night before I fear that we would get little chance to enjoy
that great area of Manhattan..we'd be leaving for the terminal the
next morning January 25th. thanks for the great suggestion!
