Do Unused London Underground Tickets Expire?
I purchased single day zone 1-6 tickets and they were mailed to my home in
the US. I forgot about that our flight is overnight so the date printed on the ticket is for the day before our plane lands. Are these tickets good only for one specific day like movie tickets or can we still use them? |

John,
A couple of observations: 1. Can't imagine why you went to the trouble of having them airmailed to you. If you're coming into LHR (I assume you are as you mention a zone 1-6 Travelcard), then the ticket office is open as long as the trains are running. The lines aren't going to be _that_ bad ! 2. London is now rapidly migrating to a contactless card ticketing solution, branded as "Oyster". The Oyster card (credit card format with embedded chip) is free, and has a number of advantages, not least that: - it is free at point of sale and you don't need a photo or to fill any forms - you can load the card a combination of season tickets (like your zone 1-6 Travelcard) and funds for single journeys ("Pre-Pay") - when you make single journeys using the card, the fare is charged at a discount to buying a paper ticket - the funds never expire (though of course a season ticket, by its nature, must !) - there are now very few buses in Central London which take cash; you either use an Oystercard or other season ticket; or you grapple with the roadside ticket machines, which invariably run slow as treacle while the bus you want bears down on you... Read all about Oyster at http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tfl/fares-tickets/2005/oyster and http://www.oystercard.com. Have a great trip ! Nick You'll find it a lot easier to get one of these plastic cards at the ticket office |
