Default Is Carnival Cutting Corners on Maintenance?

It seems that Carnival ships are making headlines with their breakdowns.
With the cruise industry so hungry for customers, their profit margins
must be pretty thin. Are they cutting into essential maintenance in
order to defray operational costs?

Why is this even in question?

And the suckers keep on coming.

Good to see your post Ray.
Of course Carnival is cutting corners.......on EVERYTHING. We made a
big mistake taking a 4 day out of our hometown. Horrors, but we knew
better. Then we decided to use our "future cruise" certificate and did
a 7 day. Not quite as bad but bad enough that we said NO MORE to
Carnival. I will say this however, the service was excellent, the crew
really tries.

We leave on the 25th for a cruise on Celebrity equinox. Celebrity never
let us down.

My sister is a travel agent. We're going on a free cruise on Carnival in
April to Bermuda. We'll be sailing through the Bermuda Triangle. What
could possibly go wrong? LOL

Free cruise, heh? I've always wondered about those. Don't you have to pay tax on that? Ordinary income? Taxed on the suggested retail price, not heavily discounted price everyone else pays, right? How much do you figure this free trip costs?

That would be if the cruise was won in a contest. A coworker won such a
contest and the cruise tax was based on brochure rate which meant he
ended up paying two thirds as much in taxes that he would have paid if
he had booked the cruise at the actual going fare. He came out a little
ahead. In Brian's case I think it is a gift. She can probably gift him
up to $11,000.

Travel agents can typically sail at deeply discounted prices if there is
available capacity (which I'm guessing that Carnival has these days, and
will have even more of after the recent events). They end up paying port
charges and taxes and maybe a little more.

I expect this is the angle our recent spammer is exploiting as well.

His sister may have been able to book the cabin at a travel agent rate
but I believe that whatever rate she is paying she is gifting him the
cruise. Brian can pipe in he please with actual fact as opposed to my
speculation.

As far as the spammer, what he is offering sounds like a pyramid
scheme. Likely he really does believe it is a business now. That is how
they pass on the scheme up and down the pyramid.... by making the marks
believers who think they are passing on good news.......
