Default Taiwan News: Japan to Allow Taiwan Citizens Visa-Free Entry

Nikkei reported on August 1, 2005 that Japan House of Representatives
(Shugiin) has passed a bill to make it permanent to waive the visa
requirements for Taiwanese visiting Japan in short terms (shorter than
90 days).

It will become law after Japan House of Councillors (Diet) also passed
it on Friday.

Currently Taiwan visitors to Japan are included in the temporary
visa-waiver program from March to September for the Aichi Expo 2005.
South Korea is also on the list for the temporary program.

Just as with the relaxed entries for Mainlanders, it's not a gift to
Chinese but an effort to get badly needed tourist income into Japan.
So it's not about being grateful on the part of the Chinese.
