I bet the lawn will eventually be replaced with something else. After
all, we "live" on the lawn, so to speak, and having one for cruising
really doesn't add more than just the novelty. I'd be shocked if the
grass would survive the salt spray from a few big blows, either. It was a
cool idea that just didn't pan out. You have to try, so they say.
Perhaps they can market it as a place of refreshment for pets that are
brought aboard. grin

I thought maybe that was the plan! They are going after the dog owner
market somehow??

Jeff

How about a Westminster Kennel Club Show one night in the Celebrity Theater?
If RCI can do ice skating, Celebrity can do pooches.

somethings are just odd but hey that is what it is all about different
things!
The grass is such a waste of money, space and is not in good shape. Lots
of brown and bare spots all over. I heard that it will take something
like $300,000 to fix it up. Lola, Jeff, is that figure about right?
The only game we saw on the lawn was bocci. IMO if they want a small
area of grass for games, they should use artificial turf which would
cost way less.
We didn't go to the glass show, but have seen lots of glass blowing
elsewhere. I think the glass show is kinda cool, esp for people who
haven't seen glass blowing before. If we had had time, we would of gone
to see it.

In Port Everglades, when we returned, the large crane beside the ship
was booming rolls of sod up to the top deck. IMHO, it's a waste. They
should put in a small pool and Carnival-type topless bathing. grin

Hi, All,

Me, Being Me, I was wandering around and ended up on deck 15 checking
on the grass I heard so much about. When I got there the crew, along
with a German Supervisor from the company that installed it, were
removing a large section of the grass. So, you know me, if I want to
know something I go to the 'horses mouth'

I asked what they were doing and I got the following info:

1. Grass was installed in August 2008, they thought that around
Christmas time they would have to replace it. After a close check at
that time they decided to let the grass stay and see what happened.
See how long it lasted.

2. They got about an extra 7 weeks out of it. It is a special blend
of grass.

3. It's for Golf and Bocci Ball, mainly.

4. This tech stated that they had to be careful of the weight of the
grass up so high on the ship, too much weight and the ship could turn
on it's side. Not sure I like that.

5. They removed a large section on Saturday and took it off in large
bags on Sunday after they docked. Then the put the new grass on the
ship, and were to install it on Monday.

Do I think that they should continue with the grass? No, it is a
waste of space, but it looks like it may stay.

Thank Kate. I guess their getting an extra 7 weeks out of it explains
the way it looked. I agree it is a waste of space!!

The revenue / cost model will most likely determine the future of the grass.

If it becomes too expensive to keep and doesn't generate any revenue, it
could be history at some point. But for now they might consider it an
attraction to increase bookings, even if it's never used once people come on
board.

Nonny your two little ones are so cute and well behaved, I really
enjoyed meeting them. Just wish we had had more time to get together
with you and your family.

Same here, and I wish I had more time to spend with Nonny's daughter.
She is such a doll.

Never did see the "Glass Show", but people said it was good. The
"Lawn" had space for bocce, some putting greens, and I guess croquet,
but like....who cares??? I was almost tempted to just lay down in it
and roll around and make a big scene, lol, but I restrained myself. I
think the "Lawn" is a total waste, and the ship didn't have nearly
enough lounge chairs to go around. Definitely rip up the grass would
be my opinion!

Jeff

Lola had a great idea, about keeping the two, skinny strips of grass
that are on either side of the Sunset Bar, and getting rid of the large
piece, they call the "patio on the lawn", because people watching the
glass show tromp all over the grass.

BTW, it was a joy meeting you on the Solstice.

lol, they should not be sayin' that to a passenger! I'd have to put on
my Maureen McGovern dress and start singing the "Morning After" in a
sunrise ceremony up on the grass, or whatnot.

I saw the big bags of turf/waste. Can't they just dump that over the
side, lol lol....

Yep, I agree, and they need more seating for the Glass Show.

They could make the top decks there all wicker like the Solstice Deck
forward on the ship. That would work, and they need more seating for
sea days in a big way, imho.

Generally I agree. The other non-entities on board are the gratuitous
stores that you never saw people in. There was a store up in the Lawn
Club area. I mean really, would you buy a t-shirt that says "Lawn Club"
on it? It's not THAT special!

Then, in the pool area there is a store, which seemed to be open for
like 2 hours, with suntan lotion and some t-shirts and a bikini or two.
The gal working there looked completely bored. I can't imagine they
sold much there. There are certain things on this ship which are shear
wishful thinking. Expanding the Martini Bar might be a good idea,
lol....that did well! Making the "crepe" for pay area smaller might be
a good idea too. I never saw anyone there. I wonder how the many
multiple specialty restaurants do? Hmmmm....if only I knew their
accountants!

Oh yes, good plan! And/or, it's quite like a passenger talent show!
Tell the passengers to bring their pooches on board (and have a special
pricey $$$$ meal plan for them! And maybe doggie spa services!) and
have a dog competition! Actually, there'd probably be a market for
this, lol...

Best passenger talent I've ever seen -- COSTA!
