The Carry-On Crisis
How 'bout that flight. Idiots slapping you with their bags in the aisles.
Overhead bins crammed to the limit. More idiots smashing your bags to squeeze theirs into the bin. People whining and bitching that there's no more room. Why don't they just put more seats and overheads in the planes cargo hold? Aren't these baggage fees wonderful? |

Aren't these baggage fees wonderful? Just wait until the XMAS travel season. Far fewer flights, much higher fares, and people won't want to pay the $15 to check luggage. This will be the first major travel season with the luggage fees. If everyone brings a roller-board size carry-on then the flight attendants will be do a lot of baggage checking right at the gate, and that will all be fee-free. |

We'll have to see what happens when that process starts delaying departures. |

Not waiting in baggage claim is great !!! |

I'm one of the first on the plane, so I am sitting while the rest are fighting for overhead room. |

Not waiting in baggage claim is great !!! But how long will it last? Everyone is doing the same thing. I don't worry about it myself because I get priority boarding. I'm one of the first on the plane, so I am sitting while the rest are fighting for overhead room. The airlines know what size bags will fit in the bins. If you bring too big a bag then you should be fined for delaying the boarding. When I fly with my wife we both bring small roll on luggage that fits in the bin assigned to our seats. The problem is enforcing the rules. I see gigantic bags being brought on and stuffed into the bins. Also there are the aholes who set farther back in the plane and just have to have their luggage up front. Bring the right size bag and put it where you sit and there are no problems. I don't know how you would enforce the rules though. Maybe a scanner to check your bag as they check your boarding pass.If your bag was too big then put you to the side and make you wait. Then they should fine you for delaying the boarding while they had your luggage checked. Also any baggage in a bin different than the bin assigned to your seat should be taken out and checked. The owner could then pay a fine and wait around in lost luggage to claim their bags. I know this will never happen and some people will always be the aholes who screw things up. Lots of people like to blame the airlines, and they do share some of the blame, but following two simple rules - 1) Make sure it fits 2) Put it where it belongs and we wouldn't even be discussing this. Happy flying to you, Dad |

They like to use the hold for cargo, as this can be a money maker for them. Aren't these baggage fees wonderful? Yes and no. Don't mind it on G9, as there low $29 one way fares make up for it. Also don't mind it on DL, as I think they allow you to check one bag for free. Of course if I flied WN more than once every 15 years I would really like them. Michael |

"Atlanta-based Delta says that effective immediately, for traffic on or after Dec. 5, customers flying within the U.S. will be charged $15 for the first checked bag and $25 for the second checked bag when traveling domestically, consistent with Northwest's existing policies." Makes it sound like everyone has to pay this fee, regardless of when you booked your ticket. Michael |
