Default Euros or US $ in Peru/Bolivia ???

A french couple friend of mine, will soon go for a 3 weeks tour in
Peru and
Bolivia, they will roughly need to change the equivalent of 800 euros or
1000
US$ for their personal expenses. Obviously they would prefer to take euros
with
them, and change directly this currency in a local bank in Peru or Bolivia.

My question is: does anyone know if euros is well accepted in
Peru/Bolivia local bank
at a normal rate???? ( normal rate mean around 6% commmision).

I remember to have changed euros in Lima airport 2 years ago,
and they charge me
between 25 and 30 % commission !!!!!....

Hallo Pierre,
they should carry USD in clean banknotes up to 50 USD, no problem to change
EURO in big cities or airports, I can't remember any commission. In Bolivia
there they should visit a bank, in Peru (Cuzco) there are small
money-changer-shops everywhere in the streets around the city center, the
exchange rate was nearly the official rate. Don't try the street changers!

Can I suggest that they place all their money in a VISA card and then they
can withdraw at any ATM / bank and there is no commission PLUS if they have
a GOLD visa card there are no charges at all. If it an ordinary VISA card
they may be charged each withdrawal about not sure as it varies with each
country

we only used mastercard to withdraw from ATM's, though i don't remember the
fee that our bank charges. it was very convenient this way, at least for
us. the ATM gives you 2 options: U$ or local currency.
