"Rochester ferry stranded by debt
DEBRA BLACK STAFF REPORTER The Rochester-Toronto ferry will no longer be crossing the waters of Lake Ontario — at least not for a while. The high-speed service, which operated twice daily between the two cities, is shutting down its operations today without any plans in place for resuming service, leaving passengers and city officials on both sides of the border wondering what went wrong. Not enough passengers. High operation cost. There is no need to wonder. Actually, I believe they had enough passengers. The problems were in Government bureaucracy on both sides of the border. The US would not allow transport trucks through, $20,000/day lost in revenue and Canada charged for Custom services.
