Default ATMs in Thailand

convenience) than Citi?

Talk to them about getting all the ATM fees waived. Worked for me. Given
that, I couldn't imagine a better bank for traveling. They have offices all
over the place, they accept collect phone calls from anywhere in the world,
and they know how to get you money ASAP if something happens to your card
(faster, in my experience, than American Express can if you lose your
travelers checks).

I helped a Finnish fellow on Phuket last year when he lost his
cheques. First we asked in a bank where on the island is the American
Express agency. We were guided to a travel agent in Phuket town which
in turn called the head office in Bangkok. Because the poor fellow
found it possible that the stack of his notes were stolen, we had to
hurry in to the tourist police station to make a report. A copy of the
report was attached to the reclaim report which was faxed forward and
the positive answer came back right away. So, our fellow cheered up
and just left the agency fresh notes in his pockets. We had to do a
bit riding because first we travelled from the western coast to the
town and the police station is in outskirts of the town.

It must have helped a lot that the chap was clever enough to save all
the documentation on buying the checks and receipts of all the notes
he had sold until he lost touch on rest of them.

May be that they don't smell as good.

they are not in Thailand....anyone aware of American banks that offer
good ATM rates for debit cards, in Thailand?

Why do you have to use an American bank? The cash dispensed by other banks
is just as good.
