Costa Rica cruise hotels
Hi:
We are booking a Crystal Cruise from Caldera next year. As we will fly into San Jose Costa Rica, does anyone recommend staying near the coast, or is it preferable to stay near the city and transfer to the pier. We are looking at the Marriots, near SJC or in Puntarenas. Thanks for your help! Ned |

Don't miss Puerto Limon, a wonderful, quaint village!

We are looking at the Marriots, near SJC or in Puntarenas. Thanks for your help! Ned We spend a fair amount of time in Costa Rica. By far our favorite place is Xandari. It is close to the airport (they will pick you up or you can take a taxi. Lovely place owned, designed and decorated by an artist and architect. They have opened a second place on the north Pacific coast, but I haven't been there yet. The Marriot is ok, but nothing special. Puntarenas is boring, at best. If you want to stay there, particularly if you are a golfer, the Marriot resort is close by and rather nice. I avoid the city of San Jose. Crowded, noisy, dirty -- everything the rest of the country is not. A word of warning: If you ask anyone in Costa Rica (driver, hotel front desk, man on the street, anyone) how long it takes to get someplace, the answer is ALWAYS two hours. It is often more in reality. Paul |
