Is it that difficult? I wouldn't waste money on a driver, just stop
now and again.

Reid, the OP is talking about Sapri, which is just south of the Cilento

I was going by Amalfi in the title.
Mind you, I was wondering if Sapri was a local spelling of Capri in
Walloon or something.

It's not difficult, in the sense that the skills of a professional
are needed.
It is just tasking, in an attention sense, and one won't be seeing much
if they are operating the vehicle. There are few if any "straight"
sections
and large portions are fairly sharp curves, and often blind curves
with vehicles coming the other way which will be crossing the
centerline.
Oh, and there aren't alot of places to "pull over" either.

Sure. Not unusual in mountain areas.

There's enough IMHO, (ive driven the road). I just dont see it as some
big deal. You will get a fair enough view of the scenery without
taking attention from road (unless youre a grip wheel tight with both
hands, mouth hanging open type of driver) between stops to look
properly. But then i didnt think much of it anyway, so perhaps didnt
want to see more.

This was very attractive, even in the rain.

Both visits were in August, BTW.

I rated it as lovely from the sea, but the trip along the road is
more
of an experience than a pleasure.

Are you kidding ... that would be one of the reasons to do it. I would
probably drive one way - just to drive that long winding road and on the
way back , enjoy the scenery and stop along the way. Each May I do just
that in California. I drive down from San Francisco to Hearst Castle to
enjoy the scenery (pull off) , then stay overnight and on the drive back
I enjoy the drive - especially when coming around a bend, I can see
ahead and see no one coming the other way (at me) 'round the next
corner.

Stop? Where? There is nowhere to stop on the Amalfi coastroad. Ok, if
you're a neapolitan driver you just stop in the middle of the road.

I have and I agree with him. The difficulty is way over rated from my
point of view. Hire a driver!!!!
