Default Court overturns air passenger rights law

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080325/...ssenger_rights

A federal appeals court has rejected a law requiring airlines to provide
food, water, clean toilets and fresh air to passengers trapped in a
plane delayed on the ground.

(I don't like cutting and pasting copyrighted news articles in their
entirety; the URL is safe. Apparently, passenger "rights" don't exist.)

You really do need some sort of reasonable consumer legislation over there
don't you...

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe.
Barbeques on fire by the chalets past the castle headland
I watched the gift shops glitter in the darkness off the Newborough gate
All these moments will be lost in time, like icecream on the beach
Time for tea.

According to the article, at least one state had that, but the national
government said, "um, no." So yes, we apparently need some sort of
reasonable consumer legislation on the national (federal) level, because
it's not allowed on a state-by-state basis.

We should have had such legislation long ago.

No "rights" exist independently of a society/legal system willing
to defend them.

I wonder if force majeure would apply for passengers needing to relieve
themselves but not allowed to leave their seats? It could be a very
expensive win for the airlines.

You didn't really think the federal government would let a state
trespass on its territory, did you?

You could be a bit clearer in what actually happened in you post, like
maybe "Court overturns New York state air passenger's rights law"
The federal court rule the issue was not something state governments had
jurisdiction over. This doesn't mean they agreed passenger rights laws
weren't needed.

I think this is a rational take on the situation:
