Default Need advice for December Capetown trip

My wife and I are flying into Capetown on December 7th and cruising
out on December 19th. This is our first visit to Capetown and we are
looking for suggestions. Tentative plan is to rent a car for that
period and tour the Capetown area and up to Port Elizabeth.

We are seniors, but very frequent travelers. We would appreciate
suggestions for the trip. Hotels (generally 3 star or better)? Places
to see? Car rental company (need auto, since it is tough enough to be
on the left side)? Itinerary?

As an alternate, we could arrange to fly into Port Elizabeth and then
drive to Capetown.

Thanks in advance.

Default Need advice for December Capetown trip

Hi

My wife is from South Africa so I have been there 3 times and we have ended
up in Cape Town each time. It is a great city, a beautiful city :-) And we
also rented a car and drove the Garden route to Port Elizabeth and it was a
nice trip. I have posted pictures and trip reports on my homepage
www.gardkarlsen.com. Maybe you can get some useful information there :-)

Have a great trip :-)

Regards
Gard

Default Need advice for December Capetown trip

The road from Port Eliazbeth to Cape Town is mostly 2 lane paved and in good
condition. There is a toll to be paid to cross the "new" bridge at
Kranskloof?. There is accomodation at Tsitsikamma, and Knysna, Oudshorn
among other places. Perhaps take 3-4 days from PE to Cape Town and another
7-8 days in Cape Town. Book early. December is busy in Cape Town.

Ideas to see/visit between Port Elizabeth and Cape Town:

Tsitsikamma National Park (coastal park) see www.parks-sa.co.za
Oudshoorn - Cango Caves + Ostrich Farm
Knysna - lagoon - Outeniqua Choo Tjoe (historic train ride)
Stellenbosch - Historic Town + Wine routes (day trip from Cape Town)
Cape Town - Table Mountain, Robben Island, Cape Point, Kirstenbosch
Botanical Gardens, Boulders Penguin colony

There are plenty of useful sites for each of these destinations. Try
www.google.com and enter a keyword

Enjoy your trip.

Default Need advice for December Capetown trip

Hi Bob

We live in Cape Town and have just arranged a trip for friends of ours from
the USA along the same route you are interested in travelling. We have a
range of different kinds accommodation here from some really good "bed and
breakfasts", self-catering cottages and hotels. The B&B's have over the last
few years become a popular choice for many visiting South Africa, but it
really is an individual choice. We could send you some information if you
like and on car hire too. In Cape Town, there is much to do and see and if
it is your first visit here you will be very pleasantly surprised !! The
trip up to Port Elizabeth is most scenic !! We can also help you arrange an
itinerary if you know where you will start your trip. If you come to Cape
Town first we can meet you at the airport to welcome you !! The friends we
mentioned above will be arriving on the 22 October and it will be their
second visit to South Africa. Both times it has been a pleasure to help them
with their arrangements. Please let us know what you require and we will try
our best to assist you.

Warmest regards

Rocco and Arlene

Hi.

Schools close December 5th which means you'll have to book
accomodation ASAP!

Take a look at www.southafricaguides.co.za for more about Cape Town,
the Garden Route and the "Friendly City" of Port Elizabeth.

You'll find Cape Town and the Garden Route under EXPLORE - Western
Cape in the menu and Port Elizabeth under EXPLORE - Eastern Cape -
Coastal region in the menu.

The site is still far from finished but there's a lot of useful
information.

Enjoy your visit.
