Default 1900 band gsm phone in rome

I'm going to Rome. I've purchased a TIM card and own a 1900 band gsm cell
phone. Will this work, or do I need a 800/1900 band phone?

Thanks for your help.

Tom

That won't work either, I'm afraid. Italy uses 900/1800, and TIM uses
both. (I suspect one predominates though, based on other networks I know
more about.) You need a dual-band phone with 900/1800 for it to work in
Italy. You can get tri-band phones which have 900/1800/1900 GSM. FWIW,
there are now quad band GSM phones (800/900/1800/1900) on the market.

A totally useless factoid, but TIM _does_ operate a 1900 GSM network- in
Peru!
