Default Transit Visa at London

Hi,
I am planning to travel to India by British airways. I have a
french residence permit. Am planning to make the trip from france to
India with stopover at london. For this am not sure if I need a
transit visa. As far as I have inquired, some people say that we need
one, and some say that since I have a residence permit, it should be
possible to transit london without one. Ive come across some posts in
related groups, but it was posted a long time back, arnd 1998 etc. Was
wondering whats the process now, if anyone has travelled from europe
to india recently.. please share your experience.

Thanks in advance
Prashant

In the end the only people who can answer this accurately is your local
British Embassy. That said, it could depend on what you mean by "transit".
If you mean fly in to London on one flight then out again on the first
flight to your destination without trying to actually enter the UK you
shouldn't need any form of visa. However, if you want to enter the UK even
if it's only to meet a friend at Heathrow for a quick cup of coffee that's a
different kettle of fish and that depends on which passport you hold.

Always best to go to an authoritative source for questions like this. Usenet is
not going to refund your airline ticket if you get it wrong.
