Default Ships Revise Itineraries Around Hurricane Florence

To Whom It May Concern:

We came across this information in the trades and thought it would be of
interest to this newsgroup as well.

As Hurricane Florence gained intensity and threatened to hit Bermuda on
yesterday, several cruise ships revised itineraries. Royal Caribbean
International's Grandeur of the Seas, which was scheduled to depart the Port
of Baltimore on Sunday, also delayed its departure until midnight Monday due
to a mechanical problem involving its starboard rudder. Because of those
repairs and the weather situation, the ship will sail an alternative
itinerary. Guests booked on this sailing may embark between 5 and 10 p.m.
Sunday and make full use of the ship until its departure Monday night. The
ship will instead operate a three-night sailing -- on Tuesday, Wednesday and
Thursday -- with no ports of call, returning Friday morning as scheduled.
Guests booked on this sailing may cancel their cruise and receive a letter
of credit for 125 percent of the amount paid to Royal Caribbean. That letter
of credit may be applied to a future Royal Caribbean cruise. Guests sailing
on this cruise will receive a 50 percent refund and a 25 percent discount on
a future Royal Caribbean cruise. Also, the Empress of the Seas, which
departed Saturday from Philadelphia, is sailing a revised itinerary due to
Hurricane Florence. "Should weather conditions change dramatically,
involving the size, strength and direction of the storm, the ship could
divert to Bermuda while initially under way," Royal Caribbean said.
"However, that is extremely unlikely at this time." The ship was scheduled
to visit Nassau on Tuesday and Freeport on Wednesday. Guests booked on this
sailing were given the opportunity to cancel their cruise and receive a
letter of credit for the amount paid to Royal Caribbean. That credit may be
applied to a future Royal Caribbean cruise. Guests who did sail on the
cruise received a $150-per-stateroom onboard credit. For weather updates
from Royal Caribbean, call 800-327-6700 or visit www.royalcaribbean.com.
Celebrity Cruises also altered the itinerary of the Zenith, given Hurricane
Florence's location and projected path. The Zenith, which departed Cape
Liberty in New Jersey on Saturday, was scheduled to visit Freeport on
Tuesday and Nassau on Wednesday. Celebrity also said the ship could divert
to Bermuda should that become a safer alternative depending on the
hurricane's path. Guests booked on the Zenith cruise were given the option
to cancel and receive credit for the amount paid to Celebrity that can be
applied to a future cruise. Guests who sailed were given a $150 stateroom
credit. For more storm updates from Celebrity, call 800-437-3111 or visit

Yup. We sailed the Zenith and ended up going to the Bahamas.
Much better than the alternative, Nova Scotia IMO.
