Hi,

Years ago I walked, alone, up to the rim of the crater on Rinjani, I had to
spend one night sleeping in a shelter on the mountain. I reckon the view
from the rim of the crater was the most spectacular panorama in Indonesia.
Of course a lot depends on the weather, it was cold and would be pretty
awful up there if it was raining. I didn't think that the walk up to the
summit was worth the long hard slog but the photograph on your website makes
me think it might have been worth the trouble.

Cheers,

Pete Loud

This was defenitely a mistake! Sunrise on the top of Rinjani is on of my
best mountain experiences ... rather cold, but defenitly worth the climb ;-)

In case that anybody wants information on climbing rinjani without
"package tour operator" or on alternative routes (e.g. from the south
through the jungle, starting in aik njet) check
http://www.lombok-ecoturist.org/ and get in contact with my friend ohiem
from mataram ...

Selamat jalan,

Manfred
