$1.92/$2.02/$2.12 US

Montgomery County, MD $0.79 per US gallon in 1980 dollars
one 2004 dollar is worth 44 cents in 1980

dollars
$1.80 per US gallon in 2004 dollars
approx $0.47 per liter in 2004 dollars

What was the price in Mongomery County in 1980? In 1980 with 2004
dollars?

I understand the price in 1980 was about $0.80 a gallon in 1980 dollars.
The point being that, adjusted for inflation, we are about equal to the

1980
price.

Go he

http://inflationdata.com/Inflation/I..._Inflation.asp

What is the real Price of Gas?

"Remember back in 1980 when the price of Gas first topped $1.00 per Gallon?
Since then we have gotten used to Gas being over the magic number, that's
why it doesn't hurt as much right? Wrong!

In real (inflation adjusted dollars) gas is actually still cheaper than it
was back in 1980!

Even though a gallon of unleaded in the US has shot up 21 cents per gallon
recently...

And Gasoline is fast approaching the peak prices seen during both Gulf
Wars...

Though many in the press are claiming that gas prices are at an all time
high...

When adjusted for inflation, it is clear that gasoline prices are far below
the 1981 inflation-adjusted peak of $2.94."

Here in rec.travel.air,
"Gregory Morrow"
spake unto us, saying:

I (vaguely) remember times in the early 70's when the gas stations
around here would have price wars and gas would get down to US 27.9
cents per US gallon. :-)

Well, first off it would only take 12.8 gallons to fill your 16-gallon tank
or at least I suspect we have a gallons vs. gallons problem here.

UK gallon = 40 fl oz, US gal = 32 fl oz.

Also the US octane rating system is the average of the "motor" and
"research" methods of octane ratings. The UK (and much of the rest of the
world) uses the higher method.
