Earliest Return Flight From LAX After Princess Cruises?

Anyone know if cruise companies have some responability for connections if a ship is late etc when a passenger has booked the return flight through the cruise company ? Typically, your "package" includes their obligation to complete your journey back to your final flight destination, although they will disclaim liabilty for any other consequences. Incidentally, from what I've been told, cruise ships rarely travel at anywhere close to top speed, maybe only about 1/2 of the speed of which they're capable which saves on fuel and makes the stability system work better. So, if they need to spped up to get back on schedule, they can do so. |

Hell, we don't even know where they are going, or whether the return flight needs to be on the same carrier as the outbound. and it does not matter. The question was what is the earliest flight I can take from LA after a cruise, imporatnat factor that is trouble for the equation, when will the ship clear. If homeland security gets a bug up their butt all the bets are off, but under usual conditions the times mention work. Now can you fly to X that day at the time? another question East Coast destinations other than hubs get troublesome, but I note that it can be done to JAX for instance on Delta leaving at 12:45 (close) and arriving around 11:30 at night. -- Joseph Coulter, cruises and vacations www.josephcoulter.com 877 832 2021 904 631 8863 cell |

Now I just wish the Port of Los Angeles was more like Port Everglades. At Port Everglades cabs are a very convenient and inexpensive way to get to the airport. Several friends have suggested a van service like Super Shuttle, but we I would have no way of knowing in advance as to which time to request a pick-up for. M. Graham There are Super Shuttle vans "trolling" the ports looking for passengers every time a ship calls. Making a reservation is generally not necessary since you won't know when you finally get out the door of the terminal. Even the 12:30 flights out of LAX can be risky because all it takes is one "hiccup" and you can be trapped in the disembarking / airline check-in process for quite a while. Have you considered Long Beach's airport. Much less crowded but with fewer flights. I have considered Long Beach, but the only return flight for CPR via SLC leaves at 6:45am. That will not work at all for us. I have also considered SNA, as we could visit Disney Land before the trip. I have considered DEN (this not only brings down the airfares, but gives more options including F9 WN) instead of CPR, but in Feb. it is hard to tell what the weather will be like and thus what the roads between Casper and Denver will be like or if they will even be open. Even better, have you considered staying in LA / Long Beach for a day at the end of your cruise? Check into a hotel with "free" airport shuttle service and repack all those treasures you purchased on your cruise. Then you will be ready for joys of air travel and won't have to rush through disembarking the ship. Cheers, * *John in LALALand |

It is actually a fairly common cruise question for any given port what is the earliest flight I can book? FLL for instance is a great fly out port as the airport is so close that people can and do make 10 am departures (and I have seen some getting on 9:30 flights same day) Rome on the other had is quite a ways from the cruise pier and a 1:00 flight can be tight given the international checkin procedures. -- Joseph Coulter, cruises and vacations www.josephcoulter.com 877 832 2021 904 631 8863 cell |

wrote: Hi all Just wondering what would be the earliest return flight departure time out of LAX after a Princess Cruise. We will be disembarking on a Saturday. Thanks M. Graham I wouldn't book anything earlier than noon myself. I'd rather sit about the airport than sweat getting stuck on the ship if it arrive s late or there's a problem getting clearance to debark. If everything went perfectly, in theory you *could* be pulling into LAX by 9:30 but I sure wouldn't wager on it. When I bok a return flight (I live in L.A. o I can't use LAX as an example), I always take something around 1 or 2 PM to be safe. Even then there can be surprises: Debarking off a Carnival ship in Galveston once was such a cluster dance we barely made a 2 PM flight even though the ship docked on time and was cleared pretty quickly..granted Houston airport is a lot farther from the dock than LAX is from San Pedro but you get the idea. Stuff can happen. Or spring for the extra airfare and get a fully changeable ticket..but those tend to be waay pricey. I'd book mid afternoon and rent a car at the dock or something and do some sightseeing if you end up with time on your hands. Jim P. |
