Also more rice, less white bread. More spices, less sugar.

Rice is very energetic.

But I have to admit: During my travels I met quite a few people like
you who are proud to do it on the lowest budget possible. Mostly, they
are not the most pleasant fellow travellers.

Dear Thomas, did I talk about the lowest budget possible?? The
original question was if 20$ a day is enough to travel in Asia and I
replied it is plenty.

But about my last comment: These cheap charlies, you find everywhere
in Asia, are a real nuisance recently.

This is not a matter of travelling but of personality ... I agree that
there exist people like that, but I do not see why you mean 'recently'
or just in asia ... I worked in tourism industry here in austria, and
I'd say that most of the tourist I dealt with, tried to get by as cheap
as possible .. to show on the other side their new car or their really
fancy and expensive (and for them useless) equippment.

It is not a matter that they
travel on a low budget, it is a matter that they make a religion of it
and have nothing else in their head than "how can I save this $". It
is a nuisance for the local population too.

and? maybe it is a really good experience to travel cheaper than someone
else ? I never traveled as competition and I probably never will... but
assuming that someone who asks about the possibilities to travel in SE
asia with a $20 budget, is like people you're talking about is kind of
stupid ...

from my point of view, it is easiliy possible to have a very nice time
with a budget like this...

Are we getting personal, Thomas? Your ancestor's behaviour in Europe
in 1914-1918 and 1939-1945 wasn't the most pleastant either but you
don't see ME mentioning that here in the original debate, now do you?

What was wrong with their behaviour then ?

It is or is not. However, I am a bit puzzled if someone is really
willing to travel one whole year.
