Default How much money for one year in Asia???

To add at least a small portion of usefull information to all this argueing
about how much money you need per day, I'll tell you what I spent during my
last holiday in December 2003 in Thailand:

20 Euro / day in average including
- accommodation (Hotel / Bungalow 600...1000 Baht / night, double room;
Bangkok, Ko Samet, Ko Kradan, Krabi)
- food + drink (incl. 2 big beers / day, almost all the time in
restaurants)
- traveling around by bus (distances 50km), boat (small distances only to
get to the islands), train (night-sleeper, BKK - South and back), taxi
(BKK)
- Internet almost every day, sometimes expensive in hotels rather than in
small internet cafes on the street

I didn't feel like missing something or traveling very low budget and I had
fun. Sure, it wasn't first class all the time but it wasn't low-level
neither.

If you have a limited amount of money, there are several ways you can save
some money.
There are surely cheaper possibilities for accommodation in .th, depending
on what comfort you are used to. I havn't tried the cheapest around
150Baht, but depending on where you are, for 600+-200B you can get a good
accommodation IMHO.

There are surely cheaper possibilities for traveling, depending on how much
time you want to spend to go from A to B and what comfort you are used to.
Sometimes the way is the goal (sorry for possibly bad translation).

There are surely cheaper possibilities for eating, drinking etc. etc...

To come to an end: IMO you can get around in Thailand for 20 Euro / day
very well.
I assume the situation is similar in several other asian countries. In some
you might need only 15 Euro, in some others you might need 25 oder 30 Euro.

20 Euro / day - 7300 Euro / year
25 Euro / day - 9125 Euro / year
30 Euro / day - 10950 Euro / year

Note: Euros are not $

My suggestion: be more specific about your traveling conditions, what you
want to do, where you want to live, what you expect your journey to be. Get
upper/lower limits ($ per day) for each country with your given
standard/comfort level and calculate a rough range of money for your whole
journey.

hope this helps: ....tmo!

P.S.: take a pen and some paper with you and write a trip report. It's fun
to read it some years after (and surely some of this newsgroup are also
interested in it)!

Are we getting personal, Thomas? Your ancestor's behaviour in Europe
in 1914-1918 and 1939-1945 wasn't the most pleastant either but you

What was wrong with their behaviour then ?

There you go, my point exactly. Congratulations. You should be proud.

I guess few people are aware on your "point". Germans are known about
their good behaviour.

Huh? Seriously now, really? Where I live they certainly aren't. Mind
you, they're not hated or something (they make damn fine cars and
tasty sausages) but people sure are aware of the past around here.

Where do you live then ? In a country of *******s?

*Some* Asian food is healthy. Thai food is pretty good. Food in

veggie matter.

That's strange - doon't they grow vegetables there ?

Heck, just today my sister bought a ticket on AirAsia from Bangkok to Udon
Thani (a few miles from the Laos border) for US$10.

Well, can AirAsia make money on that ? Suppose the plane carries 100
people - is $1000 sufficient for AisAsia to cover the cost of a 440 Km
flight ? Just wondering.

They cannot if it was the average fare. Some people tend to believe
that EasyJet, Germanwings, Ryanair and so are grossly cheaper than
"traditional" (typically more or less state owned in Europe) companies.
They do advertise flights from northern Europe to central Europe by 10
euros. 1% out of all the seats are sold by this fare and rest of them
tend to be about as expensive as by national carriers. They might "save"
a bit on ground services when they operate to air strips in the middle
of nowhere (and effectively increase transportation costs to the final
destination).
