Default Traveling to Oz

Hey there.. 34 y/o single american guy going to Oz. Trying to figure
out:

1) How hard to meet a group of folks to hang out with, party, see
sights, whatever? Are there any places that single travelers (or solo

travelers, whatever) go?

2) Hostel or motel? Pro's, cons? What do you do w/ your luggage in
a hostel?

Queensland is my destination.. for a week. Sydney/Melbourne for a
week.

Thanks all!!!
Dave

In article , Stimp says...
As for luggage, I've never had any problems with my backpack in a
hostel... just leave the bag under your bed generally. Also get some
good small padlocks.

YHA hostels generally have lockers in the rooms. And lockers outside for
those times after you've checked out but your plane isn't leaving for a
while but you still want to explore a bit more.

Motels may be more comfortable and secure, but they are fairly arid.
There's nothing to match the atmosphere in a good hotel, and everyone
has advice on what's good and what's cheap.
