Default Best area in Paris to stay

Hi,

I usually stay in the 14eme on place denfert rochereau.

very non-touristy (only "tourist attraction" is the catacombs really)

very "authentic".... but I stay there because I have family in the
neithborhood.

What do you define as "best"? I'm visiting in early June and have
booked a hotel in the 12th Arr., which I understand is decidely
un-touristy and more authentic Paris. As the Metro is always closeby,
you're seldom a very long ride to other areas.
