There is no season to speak of other than the usual Christmas period.

Assuming your in the US:
United just announced a world wide fare sale today so you may want to
check them out.
Generally, when one annouces a fare sale, the others, Air New Zealand
and Qantas follows.

There are other airlines that fly the route.
Unfortunately it is one of the highest airfare routes anywhere.

Check out
www.orbitz.com and www.hotwire.com
or one of the other online discounters such as expedia.com etc.

Be very aware of the price and whether taxes et al are also included;
plus the conditions of the ticket i.e.: non-refundable etc.

Then check the price against a regular priced ticket/conditions.

Check with your local travel agent who may be able to find you
something suitable.

Also subscribe to airline emails as sometimes they have web only
fares. Air New Zealand recently had one but I deleted it.

The more I think about it, I probably use LAX as much as I do BOS.
-----especially for very planned trips to the South Pacific.
