Uhh, doesn't this require they bite you first to find out?

Do sandflies fly about the same as midges? That is, will a brisk walk
generally keep them at bay?

I was bitten whilst standing on the sand at dawn and dusk watching
dolphins
in the water at Tin Can Bay.

They seem to be much worse at those times of day.

They can smell the vitamin B1 on you.

Julie

Unbelievable!

Tin Can Bay is exactly where we were the first time my Fiancée got bitten,
we had just returned from a houseboating trip around Frazer Island.

Small world.

take a photo, quickly take the photo, run somewhere else, etc. :-)

No they are vicious aggressive predators who like nothing more than to swoop
down in flocks on unsuspecting tourists and carry them away to their lair to
feast upon at leisure

English bug: pussycat
Austalasian bug: sabretooth tiger

Yes, a brisk walk will keep New Zealand sandflies at bay.
But stop for even one second in a place with sandflies, and you're lunchmeat.
