Trip to Victoria and Nanaimo
"Diane Hirsch" wrote in message om... We are planning to spend three nights on Vancouver Island in July (as part of a two week trip to Seattle, the Olympic peninsula, Victoria, and Vancouver.) We are not sure whether to spend all three nights in Victoria, or whether we should spend two nights in Victoria and one night in Nanaimo. If we spent the third night in Nanaimo, we would be there during the bathtub race. Is that event worth going to? We are interested in seeing the gardens in Victoria, scenery, nature, and native culture. (I thought a trip to Duncan might be intersting.) Please advise -- Thanks! Diane +++++++++++++++++++++ Hi D, Where are you coming from? You sure are coming to a green area. In Vancouver, if the weather is fine, be sure to go to Queen Elizabeth Park in on Little Mountain, quite the view. Another stunning view is from Grouse Mountain. You would enjoy a walk around Kitsilano Beach, particularly the few blocks to the east of the beach; walk over and visit the Maritime Museum and Kits Point. I am not attracted to the commercialism and competitive aspect of the bathtub races. It could be somewhat interesting for people involved with the building of boats and stuff like that; and the start is sometimes chaotic and unusual to watch. However....ho hum. Anyway, you can check out the bathtub stuff at http://bathtub.island.net/ Personally, I would stay the three days in Victoria, grabbing a bus up to Nanaimo for a day if desired. The drive from Victoria to Nanaimo offers some of the most stunning views I have ever seen. A strong however tho, a trip out of Victoria going west, up to Sooke area, is also quite interesting. Go for lunch at Point No Point, see http://www.victorialodging.com/pointnopoint/ Get a dozen eggs, package of bacon and other breakfast fixins and stuff, and maybe stay a night in one of their delightful cabins. If you like connecting with the ocean, this is a rather fine way to go. Also, once in your lifetime you must visit Johnson Lake Resort for a minimum three nights, see http://www.johnsonlakeresort.com/ Go out into the middle of the lake and turn the motor off. Lastly, for some Pure Canadian Music, visit us at www.thelittlecanadaheadphoneband.ca Travel safe. -bg- |
