Money around Asia
For the most part, I agree with Miguel. Use an ATM card as your primary
source. However, this is what my husband and I did: Took cash out of an ATM once a week (we had limits on how many withdrawals we could make per month on our account) based on the amount we thought we needed that week. We were on a daily budget of US$25/day, so we never took more than that out. In Asia, we took out much less since it is a cheaper venue. We also had 2 credit cards with us in case of emergencies. But we were gone for a full year, hence the back up card. We also had about US$200 each in cash hidden in moneybelts, $50 of which was in the form of travelers check and the rest was in cash. I hope this helps, Donna wrote in message ... Hello all I'm going back packing around Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand for 5 or 6 weeks, and then spending 8 weeks in Japan. What would you all suggest to do about money? How much cash? How much Travellers cheques? How much just left to Visa card? I was almost tempted to do most of it on visa card, but if anything should happen to the card, then you're screwed aren't you? I need to get this stuff sorted quickly, as I leave on Sunday, so thanks for any advice! Dee |
