They are trying to get the revenue. I have traveled on both Alaska RR cars and stated my opinion. That being said, for this short trip I would agree that it probably would not make much difference. YMMV vbg Best regards, Ray LIGHTHOUSE TRAVEL 800-719-9917 or 805-566-3905 http://www.lighthousetravel.com |

i think you're right. arr told me anch-seward were all the same cars.
-- Sheree "RTCReferee" wrote in message ... Ray Goldenberg The cruise line cars are pulled by the Alaska RR along with the cars from the Alaska RR. The cruise lines use the much nicer cars. Are you perhaps mistaking the routes north of Anchorage, towards Denali, etc., with the routes to the port of Seward? Prior to deciding to book HAL's cruise rail, I got a lot of information from Alaska Railroad, including pictures of the car we rode in (meaning the car we rode in when we were actually there in August of last year), and it was the same multi-colored car with the same layout, and it had the same Tiki car at the back. Perhaps you are thinking about the Wilderness Explorer and the Midnight Sun cars and similar? |

I thought HAL was using the same cars also. Do you know differently? TIA Best regards, Ray LIGHTHOUSE TRAVEL 800-719-9917 or 805-566-3905 http://www.lighthousetravel.com |

If so, I would not take that as gospel as the cruise lines say they are using the same cars that they use on the run between Fairbanks and Anchorage. I don't have recent first hand knowledge which is why I asked if you knew differently. Best regards, Ray LIGHTHOUSE TRAVEL 800-719-9917 or 805-566-3905 http://www.lighthousetravel.com |

Air associated with one-way Alaska cruise
There will be 2
rail options- the cruiseline rail leaving in the am and running around $100 and the regular run of the Alaska RR leaving at 6pm for $59. Hi Everyone, The cruise line rail transfers are not comparable to the Alaska RR. The cruise line rail is utilizes the special, very expensive sightseeing cars that were built specifically for them . In addition, they include the transfers to the airport. The last one I booked were running $89. Best regards, Ray LIGHTHOUSE TRAVEL 800-719-9917 or 805-566-3905 http://www.lighthousetravel.com They aren't??? Big deal a better seat. They go the same route and vestibules and the dome cars are open to anyone. Just passing though Seward is a greatly missed opportunity and that is what you do with the cruise contracted train. It is a great touring opportunity that is very worthwhile. The airport drop off- is not convenient for a lot of people, any east coast travelers are sometimes on late evening flight and more important- everyone should consider adding several days to their stay. Few people travel Alaska frequently - take advantage of being all the way there. Oh one other "negative", the ARR requires pick up at the depot and not the dock railroad spur. Do you get commissions for booking the railroad through the cruise lines?????? |
