Default Ramadan in Borneo

I'm flying into Borneo this week.
I'd like a heads up from anyone
who has been there before during Ramadan
as to how strict the observance is there.

Can you buy meals during the day?
Can you buy a beer?

Thanks

Haven't been in Borneo during Ramadan (only in West Malaysia), but since
most restaurants and shops in Sarawak and Sabah are owned by ethnic
Chinese, I wouldn't worry about being able to find food.

By the way, the percentage of Chinese population is lower in the
Indonesian part of Borneo, so there might be indeed a problem there. But
there won't be problems in Malaysia.

Hi,

In Banjarmasin they are pretty strict Moslems, you might find a few
inconveniences there.

Cheers,

Of cause the Muslims observed the month of Ramadan with the usual
fasting from dawn to dust for a whole month . And if you are referring
to Sarawak and Sabah as your Borneo trip, then there should be no
problem as lots of shops, restaurants (except Muslim foodshop in the
daytime) and pubs are opens. If you refer to Brunei then places that
serve foods run by muslim (in fact a lot) will not be opened. But then
again there are still chinese shops and supermarkets that are opened.
As a point of respect try not to eat in front of someone who is
fasting.
