Websites, Current European Travel Issues?
Can someone recommend websites that would be good sources of non-commercial information relative to current travel conditions in Europe, particularly France, Italy, Switzerland? For example, I would like to get information and news about current conditions, such as prices, special travel deals, etc., in view of the economic downturn in both Europe and the USA. Also recommendations re budget deals on hotels, restaurants, in France and Italy. - Perhaps the Frommer or "Let's go" websites? (Considering a trip in February or March of '09.) Thanks, Jim Cate |

The Fodors' forum (Travel Talk) is a better choice with 1st hand info from the posters. www.fodors.com/forums/threadselect.jsp?fid=2 If you post about hotels there it's best to give your price range in euros, dates, single/double/triple/quad room and what you require (elevator, ensuite bathroom, etc). Also it's best to post about each city specifically, rather than group them together. (Considering a trip in February or March of '09.) In Rome generally the hotel prices go up in March. If you plan on Venice check to see when the Carnivale is this year to avoid high hotel prices. Regards, Walter ...And Paradise Was Lost...like teardrops in the rain... |

Thanks for the helpful information.
Has anyone had experienced lower prices in Europe recently, from the lower Euro and/or depressed economies here and abroad? Thanks, Jim Cate Flights! Very definitely. I'm currently booking on Ryanair and Aer Lingus and I'm still surprised. The cost of living, on the other hand, has risen over the past six months.
