The Gower - any personal thoughts?
We're shortly to spend some time in the Gower.
I've done all the maps and obvious internet guides etc. Are there any personal tips out there beyond the normally featured? |

It's The Gower Peninsula. -- Martin in Zuid Holland You dare to correct a Welshman? But, yeh, you're right! The full name is rarely used. Strictly, it's just "Gower" - use it like a town name. |

I was at Swansea college in the late 70's. Ok things have changed since then, but my favourite places were Three-Cliffs bay (especially at high tide, as it's cut off from Oxwich Bay then(you'll have to walk through woods on a rough path to get there then), and walk out to Worm's Head at low tide across the rocks. The Welcome To Town pub in Llanrhidian was one of my favourites. If you have a car, a drive up along Cefn Bryn past Broad Pool and Arthur's Rock, and nearby is also Parc Cwm long cairn, a small excavated burial chamber. Pwlldu beach, a pebble raised-beach not easily accessible by car, and there's also the Culver Hole at Port Eynon. -- Tim C. Linz, Austria. |

Thanks so much for your very positive remarks - all verified since I was already there when you posted! :-)) Indeed, we rented a flat with a view directly over Arthur's Stone! Did the glorious walk down to Three Cliffs Bay. Saw all your other suggestions and a lot more! Gower really is a gem, unrealised by many. Thanks again. |

I've been on holiday and just saw your post. I didn't notice the date Duh! Glad you enjoyed it anyway. I really loved the time there, it really is lovely. There are some tourist hotspots, but many hardly known gems. -- Tim C. Linz, Austria. |

Voted by someone as the world's best beach, before going I checked the webcam and it was virtually empty in August! Got there in early September, and indeed it was empty, all several miles of it. Glorious scenery untouched. Apparently it's just too much trouble for most to take a half-hour drive to it - thank goodness! |

Is the skeleton of the boat wreck still there at low tide? The northern end of the beach with the dunes and rabbit warrens, and the spider-crabs in knee-deep water nibbling your toes. Memories :-) -- Tim C. Linz, Austria. |

A traffic jam ensued walking back up the hill due to 3 cockle fishermen walking on the way down! :-)) |

The Mumbles felt like some manic metropolis on our visit there to Oystermouth Castle! :-)) |
