Hotel on Long Island - Glen Cove and JFK area

Visiting Long Island, NY for a few days and looking for a
reasonable ($100?) hotel for the two of us - I have a function
near Glen Cove on the north of the island. Not sure what areas
are nice to stay, or what to visit with a free afternoon/eve.
I'll have a rental car. This is mid-Oct.

Also need a hotel for JFK as I have an early flight out.

Nice site but doesn't tell me what's a nice area to stay

Unless things have changed in the last few years hotels near JFK are
the dregs. Find a place that will give you easy access to Glen Cove
and JFK. Something on Old Country Road in Carle Place, near Roosevelt
Field Shopping Center might be good.

If you can get a good price at the Garden City Hotel take it. It's
about 20 minutes to Glen Cove (Rte 107 north) and 30 minutes to JFK,
and is also the nicest hotel on Long Island.

If your free afternoon starts in Glen Cove then, using a Long Island
map, explore East Island and find the roads to Oak Neck Beach and
Bayville where you can have a meal. From Bayville drive out to Center
Island for a look around. There is also the Teddy Roosevelt house at
Sagamore Hill near Oyster Bay.

If you get a "New York City & Vicinity" map, one side will have Long
Island in fairly good detail and give you a broad overview from JFK to
Montauk, but a map of Nassau & Suffolk Counties would be better for
exploring.
