True: the Blue Mountains are blue
and it's caused by the Rayleigh Effect. It's especially pronounced on
hot day when the leaves of gum trees exude tiny droplets of ethereal oils into the surrounding air. They act like a barrier to the short waves of the spectrum, the blues, and scatter them around the mountains. Unlike Ayers Rock/Uluru, which reflects the glowing red like a mirror, the Blue Mountains are surrounded by an atmosphere which has the blues. I have uploaded a short clip in the video section of my site. It shows the blues pretty well. Greetings - Klaus and Rusty www.rent-a-cloud.com (where everything is free) |
