Help: Churches to enjoy folk-style gospel music in US S.E.
My wife and I will be spending some time touring around Alabama,
Georgia, Kentucky, and Tennessee next June. We really enjoy the lively African-American style gospel singing as well as bluegrass/folk style of gospel we usually associate with the Ozarks, etc. While we're down there we would very much like to attend some actual worship services (as opposed to staged concerts) where we might get to enjoy this music at its natural best and in the sort of setting that gave birth to it. Can anyone recommend some churches or services that would fit the bill, and where obvious tourists would be truly welcome (and won't be met with glaring stares.) We don't mind driving out of the way a bit to get there. |
