Default 10 hours in Nairobi airport?

Hi Globies
I'll be forced to wait 10 hours for connection in NBO.
Do they allow to stay such a long time in transit area?
Are there retiring rooms or a transit hotel?
(I want to avoid to go to the city because they will charge me
for visa)
Thanks...
Wojtek

If I were you, I would pay Visa and visit the city. Maybe you even require transit visit for a stay of 10 hrs. Check with your travel agent. Or else get back to gorillasafaris. Which nationality?

If forced to get a visa, don't go into town if it's during the day,
but get one of the safari operators to give you a trip into Nairobi
National Park. Most of the private operators would pick you up at the
airport and drop you back the the airport and the NP are
contiguous. I know that Express Travel Group certainly would do this.

What Liz said! Try to go everywhere in one day, Nairobi will fill your
time no problem.

Why don't you take a taxi, and go to the Carnivore? A very nice meat
restaurant, where they serve all kinds of game-meat.

There are lots of things to do in Nairobi. I would go for Nairobi
National Park above all. It is a great way to spend a few hours and it
is very close to the Airport. If you are waiting during the day, then
you could probably exit the park at the gate that will bring you close
to the Carnivore Restaurant which I would recommend for lunch as
another poster has suggested. Then you can see some of the sites of
Nairobi and circle back to the airport. Do give yourself lots of time
to get back because Nairobi traffic is awful at times.

Sorry, but you are going to have to spring for the visa. And you
cannot get a transit visa and leave from the same place as it was
issued. (That is not transiting anything). But the $50.00 per person
is well worth it.

You can make the arrangements at one of the car hire desks at the
airport. (I suggest Hertz). They have chauffeur drive cars, as do
other companies there. You might want to plan ahead and make the
arrangements in advance to be sure there is a car waiting for you.

There is NOTHING to do at JKIA. Ten hours there would be like ten
hours drifting in space.

It may be a good idea to go there for lunch, rather than dinner,
because the evenings in the Carnivore may be your best bet to
catch malaria.

Catch a mosquito bite perhaps, but Nairobi is officially still malaria
free AFAIK. It's too high and consequently often too cold.

Johan,

yes, I've read that too, but I'm wondering whether it is really
possible for Nairobi to be malaria-free. The Carnivore is
certainly full of mosquitos in the evenings. And people travel
to Nairobi and meet there, some of them carrying malaria.

But I'm no expert on malaria.

There lots of different mosquito species, and many (most?) of them do
not spread malaria.
