Start date for Montreal Convention
So, it turns out that the "new" addition to the Warsaw Convention
about flying rules, Unification of Certain Rules for International Carriage by Air (Montreal, 28 May 1999) changes the reimbursement for lost baggage increasing it to US$1400 per passenger. My airlines (SAS) says that these rules don't go into effect until Nov 2003. Anyone know the truth? Thanks, |

Start date for Montreal Convention
Article 53 states
"6. This Convention shall enter into force on the sixtieth day following the date of deposit of the thirtieth instrument of ratification, acceptance, approval or accession with the Depositary between the States which have deposited such instrument. An instrument deposited by a Regional Economic Integration Organisation shall not be counted for the purpose of this paragraph. #196 7. For other States and for other Regional Economic Integration Organisations, this Convention shall take effect sixty days following the date of deposit of the instrument of ratification, acceptance, approval or accession. " So you have to find out when the 30th entity ratified it and when the country you start in ratified it. Then in 60 days from the later of the two events it is in force GR wrote: So, it turns out that the "new" addition to the Warsaw Convention about flying rules, Unification of Certain Rules for International Carriage by Air (Montreal, 28 May 1999) changes the reimbursement for lost baggage increasing it to US$1400 per passenger.
