Delta won't increase its 777 fleet.
1- Delta to postpone delivery of 2 777-200s until next year, at which point it
will immediatly sell them to an undisclosed party. 2- Delta to either sell 3 777-200s scheduled to be delivered in 2006, or replace that order with other types of planes. So, when you put that in simpler terms, Boeing is reducing its order book by 5 777-200s. So cutting 5 777s means Delta will not increase trans atlantic frequencies by about 2.5 round trips. Would this reflect a Delta only trend, or would such forecasts for less growth in trans atlantic market also be adopted by other airlines ? Apart from Southwest, will any USA airline place new orders with Boeing or Airbus this year ? |

I think you should see this mainly as Delta running scared as to its finances. It's making, or trying to make, cuts in optional things like airplanes. It is, however, spending money on important things like new designer uniforms for cabin crew. |

So, when you put that in simpler terms, Boeing is reducing its order book by 5 777-200s. Uuuuuhhhh. Their book hasn't reduced at all... yet. Currently, Boeing still has these planes in their book. The ultimate customer may be different. And there may be a situation in which they will lose 3 or less in their 777 book and add as many or more to other books. The only way to look at it as a reduction in their 777 book is to presume that Delta's customer would have bought them anyway, thus those are 5 sales Boeing didn't get. Could be, maybe not, depends upon what Delta is selling them for. So cutting 5 777s means Delta will not increase trans atlantic frequencies by about 2.5 round trips. Again, hard to know without other data, including what those "other aircraft" would be and if these were originally scheduled to replace existing aircraft, or to expand their routes. Would this reflect a Delta only trend, or would such forecasts for less growth in trans atlantic market also be adopted by other airlines ? Probably depends upon the airline, or more importantly which consulting firm they use. It also depends upon how Delta plans on addressing expanding markets. They could be expecting to handle some growth through partners. Of course, it can also reflect their current over capacity. Apart from Southwest, will any USA airline place new orders with Boeing or Airbus this year? The current glut of Boeing equipment in deserts probably is a problem for them. |

I was hoping it will get more bigger and modern planes. I think their 767's are a bore to fly to India especially without IFE/PTV especially with other competetiors and partners offering better products. alren. |

Apart from Southwest, will any USA airline place new orders with Boeing or Airbus this year ? IIRC, DAL is doing this, in preparatiton to be the first US carrier to fly the 7E7. Since ANA is going to be the first carrier period to fly it, it leaves no US presence with Boeing's new plane. DAL is slated to order a couple of these, and may be the first to receive and fly them when they go into major production. Also, to this day, there hasn't been any announcement that I've seen, of any US carrier ordering or taking command of any Airbus plane larger than the A330 (NWA, possibly USA). No A340, no A380.
