Importing Maple Syrup from Canada
On the week end I sent an inquiry (spelling??) to AU Customs regarding
the possibility of bringing in "several" jugs of Maple syrup from Canada , and yadda yadda details.... I was referred to www.aqis.gov.au and sent an inquiry to " So far there has been NO response. I need to know. I'd like to bring, BUT I don't want the syrup to be confiscated... What can I do now - without creating an "international incident" ;-) Thanks for any suggestions that will lead to ANY response from the "guvment of Australia". I don't want to create any hassles - there are enough "unanticipated" events in life as it is...... Thank you and regards, Ken Pisichko |

I have brought maple syrup in without any problems, one time a five gallon tin - no questions, as long as it was declared. It is not a prohibited item. Make sure you are bringing in for personal use, not commercial quanity - this is harder to determine. Be sure to have receipts for the total, as if you are over the duty-free limit ( I think it is $400) you will need to pay import duty on the total. Tom |

Importing Maple Syrup from Canada
Thank you Tom!
Here is the reply I just received from ". I am on my way!! Yabba-dabba-doo :-) Dear Ken, Thank you for your enquiry about bringing maple syrup to Australia. Maple syrup is permitted, providing it is commercially prepared and packaged (i.e. brought from the shops). There is a limit of 10 litres per person, otherwise commercial import conditions will apply. Once you arrive in Australia, you will be required to complete an Incoming passenger Card (IPC). On the IPC, you must declare all items of food (including maple syrup), animal or plant origin as well as any other articles that are covered on the card (e.g. medicines, wooden articles) - please remember that these items are only examples illustrating the types of items that must be declared under each category. After you collect your luggage, you will be directed to a Quarantine Inspector who will inspect your declared items and inspect and/or x-ray your remaining luggage before you depart the international arrivals area. For further information on what goods can or cannot be brought into Australia, please go to our website at www.affa.gov.au/airports or our import conditions database (ICON) at www.aqis.gov.au/icon. I hope this is of assistance to you. If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. You can buy Maple Syrup at Woolworths in Australia and NZ.
Yes, it is dear -- but almost always from Canada [US syrup too expensive due to exchange rates]. Since you can buy the stuff at any reasonable supermarket - I wonder why
you'd bother!!! "Ken Pisichko" wrote in message ... I will bring it for the same reason that I will bring Vegemite back from Australia - it costs a heck of a lot less that way! Yes, I can buy a tiny jar of Vegemite here - for now, or until Kraft stops importing it into Canada - but I cannot buy a large jar here that will last more than a couple of weeks. |

Canadian dollar = 0.904 USD so hardly a huge difference any more.
Our stuff is WAY better though ;-) "Max Power" wrote in message ... You can buy Maple Syrup at Woolworths in Australia and NZ. Yeah, but it has to get cold enough and then warm enough for the sap to run
in any meaningful quantity........ "Ken Pisichko" wrote in message ... Max Power wrote: You can buy Maple Syrup at Woolworths in Australia and NZ. I've sent bottles as "thank yous" to some mates by mail - it took a while
and I think some were opened up by AQIS et al. but they all got through. "Ken Pisichko" wrote in message ...
