Default Ryanair is further economizing

The company has announced that until the end of this year passengers and
their luggage won't be check in at those counters at airports dedicated for
the clearance but for all the forthcoming flights passengers will do the job
themselves in internet.

Where have they announced this?

It isn't on their web site.

OT1H, I can't see it as completely a bad thing that they allow people with
luggage to check in online.

OTOH, Unless they allow check in of the return flight before the date of the
outbound (I can't remember if they do) how do they expect everyone to find
internet access to check in for the return (the average FR passenger not
exactly being the type of person who stays at hotels with access at the
hotel or to carry their own laptop with them)

It's in various media interviews.

Or if it means that people without EEA passports can now check-in
online!

While Ryanair is usually a very cheap option for me for solo trips, when
I travel with (US passport holder) Oscar, it's around £20 more expensive
(as we both have to check-in online on the same itinerary). Small amount
maybe- but that can sometimes be the decider when we're looking at trips
'on a whim.' I've recently got a visa electron, which saves on their
card charge too...

TBH there is no real solution to this. The online system is never going to
be able to check the validity of their visa. Though I agree that they
shouldn't have to pay for this to be done.

Where did you get that from please? (though the airline that I most wanted
one for has now gone bust!)

Halifax- just open a basic account.

HSBC too! Watch for currency conversion charges.

I probably wouldn't ever use it in anything other than pounds. Paying
online for a tuifly ticket recently, they gave a very fair currency
conversion rate, so as an experiment I tried it, to see if the credit
card piles on an additional charge.

Still, I obviously like wasting money. I've been paying far more than I
should have for phone and broadband recently, and only just switched
providers. It was incredibly easy to do- but I suppose inertia just kept
me with the same unreasonable rates for so long...

Why's that a surprise? It was easy to apply for, and I'll only use it
say, 3 or 4 times a year- so won't keep much in it.

How much do you pay a minute for a phone call? Vodafone are offering a SIM
card fir prepay that charges ¤0.30/minute from anywhere to anywhere in the
world ( with a few exceptions) I looked up what we pay within NL with a
Vodafone Dutch prepay SIM card and it was ¤0.35/minute.

I actually don't use my mobile much, and prefer to use it less and less.
I pay 9p a minute on Tesco in the UK. (I rarely use it outside the UK,
but the EU rates are fine.) Asda mobile apparently has good rates too.
That's all non-contract- I haven't had a contract for years now, and
even the lovely iphone hasn't tempted me to get one. (I don't have an
iphone either FWIW.)

I was meaning my home phone line. I was paying about £12 a month to BT
for the landline, £22 to plusnet for the broadband, and around £5 a
month calling abroad (though that's very cheap- around 1-2p a minute for
the countries I call.) I've switched to one provider for phone and
broadband now, paying £16, and that includes "unlimited" (7p connection
charge per call) calls to landlines in 36 countries.
