Default Cathay allasia pass

I am planning a trip to several countries in Asia. I can book an
all asia pass with Cathay for US$1350 which supposedly allows unlimited
travel for 90 days.

Can anyone share their experiences with this pass?

I've used the Malaysia Airlines pass. I've also shadowed someone who was
using the Cathay pass (it worked out cheaper for her, and for me it worked
out cheaper - and faster! - to have point-to-point tickets on various
airlines).

It pretty much works like they say it does. You have to pick your route in
advance and it is set in stone. You can change dates around though as long
as you do the same stops in the same order as originally planned - I don't
recall whether there's a fee but I'm sure it says on the web site.

Most of the time you'll have to go back to Hong Kong between other
destinations, though with some creative planning and careful reading of CX's
schedules you can avoid it sometimes. This is sort of annoying if you're
flying from, say, Penang to Bali.

I'm wondering if it would be better to get the cheapest flight to
BKK and then book airfares as I need them. I want to visit the
Philippines, Indonesia and Thailand at a minimum.

If you're just doing those countries, you may well be able to do it cheaper
that way. Add on much more, though, and the pass is going to catch up
quickly.
