November Tourism down 3.1 % from Last Year

By Cihan News Agency

The number of tourists visiting Turkey in November decreased by 3.1 percent,
dropping to slightly more than one million, when compared to the same period
of last year.

The number of tourists arriving in Turkey in November declined to 1,020,
106, according to a statement released by the Turkish Statistics Institute
(TUIK) on Friday.

According to the TUIK data, the corresponding figure for November 2005 was
1, 052,561.

The bird flu outbreaks, the World Cup games held in Germany, the killing of
a priest in Trabzon and the cartoon row earlier this year are seen as key
factors in the reduction of tourist arrivals in Turkey in 2006.

Turkey's tourism revenues were $18.2 billion, with a 14 percent rise in
2005, exceeding government targets. The government had hoped that the figure
would exceed $20 billion by the end of 2006.

Unfortunately far too many Westerners still do, but dont despair. It
wouldn't be long before
the Mullahs let lose their cut-throats on poor tourists as they did in Egypt
only a few years ago.
