Default Pride of America Sinks!

Hi Everyone,

I have learned that Norwegian Cruise Line's Pride of America sank this
morning at Lloyd Werft shipyard in Bremerhaven. The ship which was due
to be delivered this April started taking on water during a heavy
storm. It shifted towards a pier and sank. All of the workers got
off and it is possible that 2 have minor injuries. The ship is
grounded next to the pier and listing at 20 degrees. It is being
reported that the lower 3 decks are under water & the engine spaces
may be flooded.

Lloyd Werft has informed Norwegian Cruise Line that at approximately
12:30 a.m. in Germany in stormy weather with high winds, Pride of
America took on water up to deck three and experienced a list of
approximately 15 degrees. The ship, which is under construction and
docked at the shipyard, is resting on the bottom and is now secure.

The ship should be refloated in the next few days. Until this
refloating has taken place, Lloyd Werft will not be able to assess the
extent of the damage or any potential delay in the delivery schedule.
NCL will provide updates as soon as further information is available.

We have established a special phone number for inquiries at
1-800-456-3054. Further updates will be posted at
http://www.ncl.com/prideofamerica.

Those are some very sad looking pictures. Actually I am very interested
in the future of the Pride as we had kind of thought about sailing on
her sometime in the Summer of 2006 in conjunction with a land trip to
Hawaii.

Does this really qualify as "sank" or "taking on water"?

You know, I wondered about that myself. When I first heard "sank" I was
thinking like the Titanic. But it sounds like it is resting on the
bottom with the lowest decks flooded. I wonder what caused it to start
taking on water.

Hi John,

There are divers on scene analyzing what may have caused the accident.
My sources tell me that it could have been something as simple as a
valve breaking. No one knows at this time.

Best regards,
Ray
