NAAFA's boycott of Southwest Airlines causes profits to soar
Southwest Airlines' profit soars
Bloomberg News Southwest Airlines Co. increased first-quarter profit and Continental Airlines Inc. narrowed its loss as more people flew than at the start of 2003, when the Iraq war and the SARS virus reduced travel. Net income rose 8.3 percent to $24 million at Southwest, the largest low-fare airline, as sales increased 9.8 percent to $1.48 billion. The net loss at Continental, the fifth-biggest U.S. carrier, shrank by almost half to $124 million as revenue climbed 11 percent to $2.27 billion. Southwest has stayed profitable since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, the war and the outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) reduced travel demand and spurred fare competition. Larger rivals such as Continental cut costs to try to stem losses. UBS Securities analyst Samuel Buttrick estimated U.S. airlines trimmed their loss excluding onetime costs or gains by about half from a year earlier to $1.5 billion. "You take a look at fundamentals and, outside of things like fuel or weather, I'm seeing planes that are more full, companies that are beginning to charge higher prices for the remaining seats and cost structures that are becoming much more lean," said Jeffrey Kauffman, a Fulcrum Global Partners analyst in New York. "What I'm seeing, at least at the margin, is encouraging, although far from robust." ------- Making the morbidly obese buy two seats has been a huge success. NAAFA's boycott of Southwest Airlines causes profits to soar
I have sat next to some of these "morbidly obese" people and half of them
infringed into my area. I think that it is only fair that a person buy what it takes to fit his body. Ed "Catharine Honeyman" wrote in message ...
