Default Manhattan-Bronx taxi fares

Could anyone tell me roughly what a taxi trip from Central Park to Riverdale
( Manhattan College Parkway) in the Bronx might cost?

I'd also appreciate advice on the safety or otherwise of travelling the same
route on the subway late at night.

If anyone actually knows the subway lines and/or bus for that trip, that
would help too.

I really don't know, because I would never take that kind of long cab
ride except to go to or from an airport. It will be quite expensive,
suffice it to say.

I'd expect it to be safe, to the extent anything you do in New York
will be.

If anyone actually knows the subway lines and/or bus for that trip, that

You'll have to take the 1 train, but if you're on Central Park West,
you can take the A (which runs local after 10 or 11, I forget which)
or C train, and change for the 1 at 168 St.

You should get off at the last stop, 242 St. - Van Cortlandt Park, and
you will then have to walk up a hill if I remember correctly. The walk
will be a few blocks long, less than a half a mile, I believe. The
only problem would be if you are carrying a lot of stuff. That could
be a reason to take a cab, or a livery (non-medallion) cab.

Make sure to bookmark this site:

http://gis.nyc.gov/doitt/mp/Portal.do

It's the New York City Map Portal, and if you know the exact address
of anyplace in the Five Boroughs, you can just enter the information
and see a map showing the exact location and shape of the building.
You can also elect to see things like subway stops. The only drawback
is that it lacks a scale showing the distances, but it's still a great
site.

I'm only guessing here, but I'm relying on my long experience as a
native NYer: no one likes the walk up the hill from 242 St so I would
count on there being a fleet of cars waiting to ferry fares up to
Riverdale. At many other main subway stops in The Bronx there are car
services hanging around for each train to unload.

Hopefully a Riverdale resident can verify this.

I too would not take a cab from Midtown to Riverdale unless my company
were paying for it but I would put the cost at about $25 (a guess), or
less, based on what it used to cost me to get to Whitestone, Queens,
13 miles from Midtown.

[snip]

I'm guessing more than $30.

Would you expect it to be easy to get a car up the hill late at night?
By the way, Brian Tannam, what do you mean by "late at night"? In New
York, that usually means after 1 or 1:30 A.M. 11:30 is not late at
night in New York.

If you decide against the cab or car service you might want to check
out hopstop.com for New York City - it will tell you how many blocks
you need to walk and when to make each left or right turn or if there
is a nearby bus you could get onto. Hopstop is not perfect so I would
double-check results on the mta.com interactive map.
