JetBlue new service to Puerto Rico and Dom. Rep.
What a bunch of cheap political pandering....Would have sounded kind of
funny if they made similar statements about JetBlue's new service to Sacramento last week. Would have gone something like this: ``I am pleased that JetBlue will be expanding service to Sacramento, which will further strengthen the strong ties New York already enjoys with the California Central Valley and provide added convenience for travelers who are vacationing, on business, or visiting relatives there,'' New York Governor George Pataki said. ``JetBlue Airways' decision to provide affordable, high quality service from JFK Airport to the Sacramento is also tremendous news for New Yorkers, particularly for the thousands of Californian's who have loved ones out west.'' U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer said: ``One of the most important issues facing the transplanted Californian community in New York is being able to get to Sacramento and back without paying through the roof. When we asked JetBlue to begin serving Sacramento, they came through. The next step is filling the seats so that we can convince JetBlue to add even more flights and more service to other areas in the Western United States.'' Charles A. Gargano, Chairman of Empire State Development and Vice Chairman of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey said, ``This is an exciting day for New Yorkers -- especially those who have family in or do business with California. JetBlue's new service to Sacramento, will increase business and tourism between New York and California, and marks another step forward in Governor Pataki's goal of creating one million new private sector jobs by the end of this decade.'' I just wish they would expand more out west since that's where I always fly
and they sound like a good airline. Would have gone something like this: Well, they're politicians and that's what politicians do. But JetBlue is their darling, started out providing cheap, reliable service to communities in upstate NY, and has grown into a major domestic player. Now they're expanding in the Caribbean, and that's good news to NYC residents and people connecting from upstate. It's breaking AA's stranglehold at JFK, which has always been a tough nut to crack historically, and the promise of greater Caribbean competition is always nice. |
