*I have prepared a an adjusted ranking of the top 23 medal-winning
countries that might be available this time tomorrow. Jamaica is
Number One, the USA 19, and China last.

Except that doing your rating per capita handicaps any large Country. That
would only be fair IF we could send a far larger team that was a per
capita percentage comparable to the other Countries, but it isn't. Our
team would have to be 100 times the size of Jamaica's to start out
comparably, but Jamaica was allowed to field the same size teams as the
US.

I was under the impression that team sizes are dictated by how many people
have qualified in pre-Olympic events.

There is also a limit on the number of participants per sport. For
example, in the team sports each country is only allowed one or two
teams, regardless of the population. In track and field the upper
limit for each country is three participants.

That just show how ignorant people are about China. They have come a
long long way in just 20 or 30 years.

The same thought gnawed at me.

I felt the best real performers, apart from the athletes,
were taken away in Police vans after being arrested in "Free
Tibet" protests.

Now that journalists have gotten out of the country, we should start
seeing reports about what really went down.

China does not have the freedom of expression enjoyed in our country.
It's totally unfair to use western standards to judge how China reacts
to protestors.

gymnasts' ages are important … the power to weight

The average weight of the female USA gymnasts was something like 106
pounds; the Chinese team was about thirty pounds lighter! Yeah, sure,
they were all of qualifying age.

Again you are judging the Chinese using American standards. I don't
know if they are old enough or not, but you can't judge age simply by
how they look and how much they weigh. They don't have the same
nutrition as an American. Maybe if the Americans don't go to
McDonalds so much they'd weigh less.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe.
Barbeques on fire by the chalets past the castle headland
I watched the gift shops glitter in the darkness off the Newborough gate
All these moments will be lost in time, like icecream on the beach
Time for tea.

Taiwan is an excellent example of what China could aspire to be if people
stopped pandering to its awful government.

Why is it unfair to judge China by Western standards?

China always judges everyone else by their standards.

(And why do China partisans always have a really bad understanding of the
use of English...)

Because China is not the West.

China always judges everyone else by their standards.

So it's unfair for them to do it too.

What's a partisan? And why would you expect Chinese to have a good
command of English? How's your Chinese? Why do western partisans
(whatever that is) always have no understanding of the use of Chinese?

See what I mean.

A world full of on-line dictionaries and too arrogant to use one.
