rifles for free to lure young people to attend Sunday ceremonies. Praise the

And using only one assault rifle instead of more than one to attract
youths to a religious conference makes it acceptable? It sounds bizarre to
me, though not surprising for Baptists.

An assault rifle, if you can get one at all, costs thousands of
dollars in the US and requires an extensive background check. They
were not giving away an assault rifle, they were giving away a rifle
of the kind required by the rules of the most popular rifle target
competition in the US.

In any case, it was a prize in a shooting match--one presumes that
anyone who wins a shooting match either owns or has regular access to
firearms, so giving him one would seem to be unlikely to enable him to
do anything that he could not do regardless. Target shooting is a
game of skill, not chance, and the winner has generally put in a great
deal of practice.
