Cheap parking close to Sheraton Inner Harbor, Baltimore?
Anyone aware of cheap parking within walking distance (like maybe 6
blocks or so) of Sheraton Inner Harbor in Baltimore? (Just want to dump a rental car there for 3 full days while at a meeting.) [Or, is anyone aware of any better solution for 3 day stay coming from the West Coast? Flying SFO-BWI appears to be a hassle compared to flying SFO-IAD and taking ground transportation; but any ground transportation options from IAD to downtown Baltimore all appear to be either about as costly as a rental car, or a lot less convenient.] |

How about giving the car back when you get there, then rent another one when you leave? It doesn't look like there's a drop charge from IAD to Baltimore. R's, John |

I'm not sure but I don't think you will find cheap parking in that area. I'm not aware of any. It's the middle of the downtown area and the residential areas have very strict parking restrictions for non-residents. |

IAD seems to be the worst airport to use if you wanted to use public transportation (been there, done that). First you have to take the Washington Flyer bus ($10) to the Metro, then go to Union Station, then take MARC (weekdays only) to Baltimore. |

Response from the OP:
1) Thanks much for replies to date. 2) Google search brings up numerous public parking garages in the Inner Harbor area (a dozen or two within 3 or 4 blocks of Harborside). Anyone know what their rates might be for a 24-hour overnight stay? (Haven't found this info on the web yet.) 3) Does the Fallsway Park & Ride setup still exist? (Wikipedia and other online sources describe it as having existed in the early 1990s, then being cancelled) If still alive, does it have one-shot transit connection to Harborside/Sheraton Inner Harbor vicinity? And does this function (both ways) into the evening? Maybe until midnight? At reasonable intervals? Thanks again. |

And SuperShuttle website says $90 for a single passenger on their door-to-door service, IAD to Baltimore. .. . . and is fuzzy about how the rate drops with multiple passengers, .. . . and is also fuzzy about whether they'll deliver you to an Inner Harbor hotel, or just to BWI |

Last time I went from SFO to that area BWI was the cheapest airport for flights, plus they had the cheapest rental cars. Now BWI seems to be a tad more expensive since Virgin America and Air Tran are competing at IAD, so BWI is about $30 more. |

In general there are many more nonstops from SFA (San Francisco area) to IAD than to BWI; and all the one-stops SFA - BWI are several hours longer total flight time, plus the hassle of the connection. (Nonstops BWI back to SFA are especially scarce). By contrast, United (which is my primary FF carrier) has multiple daily nonstops both ways SFO - IAD, thus giving me more scheduling choice, plus backup options in case one of these flights gets cancelled or delayed. |
